Winning the Water category at the 2025 Zayed Sustainability Prize has been a powerful catalyst for several SkyJuice initiatives, including the Equal Access Colombia program.
Access to safe drinking water is a basic human right and a cornerstone of public health, education, and community stability. Across Colombia, many rural and low-resourced communities, alongside displaced populations, continue to face daily challenges in accessing safe, reliable water.
Equal Access Colombia addresses the critical need by providing sustainable water solutions to schools, community centres, and facilities supporting transient displaced populations.
Public infrastructure is often stretched beyond capacity in regions burdened by conflict, environmental stress, and migration. And while the recent history of Internally Displaced People and refugee migration through Colombia is well documented, there remain substantial numbers of internally displaced persons. Equal Access Colombia helps relieve this pressure by ensuring equitable, reliable access to safe drinking water, strengthening community resilience and promoting public health across vulnerable areas.
SkyJuice technology, featuring the SkyHydrant™, SQUIRT, and Platypus systems, uses advanced passive membrane filtration to deliver between 8,000 and 20,000 litres of safe drinking water daily. When installed in central locations such as schools, shelters, and community hubs, these systems provide clean water access to entire communities, including the most vulnerable: displaced families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The SkyJuice product range spans from lightweight, portable units suitable for individual or household use to robust, large-scale solutions designed to serve entire communities.
Equal Access Colombia builds on an extensive portfolio of over 500 installations in Colombia alone, and its success is based on strong partnerships with local NGOs and community organisations. Delivery partners include the Colombian Red Cross, the International Organisation for Migration, Rotary and other international partners.
By providing safe water, Equal Access Colombia is improving school attendance, supporting community resilience, and restoring dignity to displaced families.
