Winning the Water category at the 2025 Zayed Sustainability Prize has been a powerful catalyst for several SkyJuice initiatives, including the Equal Access Philippines program.

Over the past decade, SkyJuice’s passive membrane technology has been deployed in more than 240 schools and villages across Mindanao, providing long-term access to safe, clean water. This success is the result of effective collaboration with Balay Mindanaw, the Philippines Safe Water for Every Child Initiative, Disaster Aid Australia, local Rotary Clubs, and government agencies.
Now entering its next ambitious, but achievable, phase, Equal Access Philippines aims to extend safe water coverage to a minimum of 94 schools in City of Kidapawan, Mindanao. SkyJuice is partnering with Safe Water for Every Child Philippines (SWEC-P) and the City of Kidapawan, to focus on schools as the immediate source of safe, clean water.

Beyond infrastructure, the project’s strength lies in its partner-centred approach. The model promotes local ownership and long-term sustainability by partnering with local governments and proven and credible organisations. In September 2024, David Langworthy, Senior Strategic Advisor for SkyJuice Foundation, visited the Philippines to assess progress. His visit reaffirmed this core principle:
“Communities that invest in their own water systems, such as those in Mindanao, are more likely to take ownership of their maintenance and upkeep. This approach fosters sustainability and ensures these systems serve future generations.”
David’s visit also underscored the cost-effectiveness of school-based installations. Leveraging existing infrastructure reduces costs and ensures reliable access for students and surrounding communities, especially during emergencies.
Additionally, in a country such as the Philippines, vulnerable to typhoons, earthquakes, and conflict, Equal Access impacts many sections of the community. SkyHydrant technology has played a critical role in disaster response. For over a decade, these filtration systems have delivered life-saving water to displaced populations, including in the conflict-affected Bangsamoro Region, where they continue to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable communities.

Equal Access Philippines is not just delivering clean water — it is building healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come.
